The case of a two-year-old girl whose mother went to pick up a nursery in Plantation (southeast Florida) and found that the employees had locked up and left her locked up, with the lights off and she was alone resounding days later in the media and networks.
According to the local CBS channel in Miami, the child protection services of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office are going to open an investigation, while the management of the nursery assured that it has taken measures so that it does not happen once more.
Stephanie Martinez, the little girl’s mother, arrived half an hour late Wednesday to pick her up at the KinderCare Child Care Center in Plantation and found the place closed and without power.
According to his account, he was banging on the windows of the building until following some time he saw his daughter through the glass of one of them and called the emergency telephone number.
The firefighters showed up and without breaking the door they managed to open it and get out the girl who was safe and showed no signs of being upset by the situation, according to the police report.
The images of the operation were published on the networks and in one of them a girl is seen behind a closed glass door, just as the firefighters found her.
The mother said she didn’t get a call from the nursery to warn her that it was late and she needed to hurry.
The nursery hours are until six in the evening and according to police reports, the mother arrived half an hour later.
The nursery released a statement in which it stresses that the safety of the children is its main concern and announced that the people involved in this case have been removed from their posts until they investigate what happened.
“While those investigations are taking place, we will immediately take steps to ensure that this type of thing does not happen once more,” he added.
The nursery also indicated that teachers and staff will receive additional training in “proper supervision of children” and “best child care practices.”
