- Residents of the city reported that the La Fénix ravine overflowed and the water entered some houses
Several sectors of Maracaibo, Zulia state, woke up flooded on Friday, November 22 after intense rains that occurred since dawn.
Users on social networks published photos and videos of the flooding. Journalist Jhorman Cruz reported in his account
Other sectors affected by the heavy rains in the early morning were La Montañita and Arismendi, west of the capital of Zulia.
The reporter also indicated that in the El Marite and El Varillal sectors there were material losses. He insisted that these floods would be creating a problem for the health of the inhabitants in the area, because the water reached the apartments.
According to Cruz, the Marabino authorities activated emergency lines for reports of citizens at risk due to weather conditions.
The journalist also assured that the inhabitants had previously denounced the lack of cleaning of the ravines by the Corpozulia authorities. He added that the residents went several times to request cleaning, but they had been “ignored.”
Rains in the country
The National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (Inameh) foresees a progressive increase in cloudiness that generates rain and eventual electrical activity for after noon on Friday, November 22 in the Capital District, Miranda, Zulia, Delta Amacuro, Guayana Esequiba, Bolívar, Amazonas, Sucre, La Guaira, northern Aragua, Carabobo, Yaracuy, Central West, Western Plains and The Andes.
The agency reported that no tropical wave activity is expected, so it predicts regular swells with waves of up to one meter in the Orinoco delta, the Gulf of Venezuela, the island zone and the central, eastern and western coast.
Likewise, minimum temperatures are expected to reach 8 degrees Celsius in mountainous areas of Mérida, while maximum temperatures would reach 37 degrees Celsius in Guayana Esequiba.
Meteorologist Luis Vargas explained that despite the lack of tropical wave activity, the rains continue due to the divergence of the high-altitude wind that reinforces the “activity of the monsoon trough and the intertropical convergence zone.”
The expert explained that these conditions will generate rains with electrical activity, especially in the west of the country.
A rainy weekend
Luis Vargas assured that the weekend of November 23 and 24 is expected to be rainy in several states of the country, especially in the western and central states.
He estimated that for the morning of Saturday, November 23, there will be rain in the western Venezuelan Caribbean.
“It is also moving towards the east of the country, a disturbance at low levels of the troposphere that will contribute to widespread rains for Sunday,” added the meteorologist.
