Natural disasters have occurred once more in Indonesia. What’s more, floods hit Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi, Friday (29/3). The flooding was triggered by heavy rain which was made worse by high tides.
Floodwaters as high as 20 to 50 cm submerged the villages of Tanarigella, Sakti, Padang Kalua, Barowa, Pabbarasseng, Pammesakang, Karang-Karangan, Toddopuli in Bua subdistrict and Parekaju village in Parekaju subdistrict.
“Based on the report from the Luwu Regency BPBD Operations Control Center (Pusdalops), the impact of the flood incident resulted in 314 heads of families being affected, and there were no fatalities as a result of this incident,” said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari, Sunday (31/3 ).
He revealed that as many as 314 houses were submerged due to the flood. Apart from that, two educational facilities were affected, one health facility, and corn plantations and paddy fields around the banks of the Bua River were damaged. In Parekaju village, the embankment holding the cliff was washed away 21 meters long, causing damage to the road.
“Flood management is carried out by a joint team providing relief and helping residents clean up leftover material from the flood in the form of mud. The current condition of the flood is gradually receding,” he added.
Apart from Luwu Regency, floods and landslides also hit Palopo City, South Sulawesi. Floodwaters as high as 60 cm to 150 cm submerged the sub-districts of Pentojangan, Salubattang in Telluwanua District, and Mawa sub-district in Sendana District.

Flooding caused 88 houses to be submerged. The flood occurred following high intensity rainfall on Friday (29/3). Information from the BNPB Pusdalops, the flood occurred at 22.00 WITA, causing 88 families to be affected, it was reported that there were no fatalities as a result of this incident. The local BPBD is carrying out flood management and the latest information is that the flood has receded.
Meanwhile, a landslide disaster occurred in Palopo City, located on Jalan Poros Latuppa KM 08, Latupa Village, Mungkajang District. The landslide disaster was triggered by heavy rainfall at 01.00 WITA. Landslides covered 20 meters of road along the Latuppa KM 08 axis on Saturday (30/3).
“The joint team immediately repaired the road that was blocked by landslides. The current condition of the road is that it is open and can be passed by vehicles,” he concluded. (Z-11)
