Floating creperie crashed into a quay

About 100 people were on board the “Pannenkoekenboot” – literally “Pancake Boat” – when the accident happened, according to police. 14 of them were slightly injured.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. The police clarified that the captain of the boat was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Dutch are very proud of their pancakes, which are thicker than French crêpes but thinner than American pancakes. Usually, on these types of boats, passengers can eat as many delicious pancakes as they can while admiring the scenery.

Footage broadcast by local channel Rijnmond shows the floating creperie colliding with the quayside. “Everything was shaken in the air, people, tables, chairs, drinks, everything,” said a man eating pancakes with his two “very shocked” daughters.

Boat accidents are a common occurrence in Rotterdam, a city that is home to Europe’s largest port.
