If you are traveling to or from the United States around the first of July, there is a chance that your flight will be delayed. Indeed, this is the date that the country has chosen to make the implementation of modernized altimeters mandatory in devices, in order to avoid problems due to 5G.
Airplanes and 5G do not necessarily mix well… Indeed, the network can cause interference with certain altimeters, especially on older models. This is the reason why the devices are gradually updating with modernized hardware.
In the United States, the decision has in any case been made to limit devices that are not yet up to date. They will no longer be able to land under certain visibility conditions from the first of July.
A security decision which may however affect certain flights, as reported by the Wall Street Journal, since between 20 and 35% of aircraft flying on, from or to American territory are not yet up to date. From July, therefore, we can expect to see some planes having to circle around airports while waiting for authorization to land, or even be diverted altogether. Other flights simply might not take off if the conditions at destination are not optimal.
Fortunately, the choice of the month of July, sunny, should make it possible to limit the breakage. Except of course if the fires still continue to ravage the American territory, which is unfortunately likely.
A particularity which also brings up to date the obligation to turn off your smartphone, if it has 5G, on the plane, at least while waiting for the entire air fleet to be updated.
An evolution which is unfortunately slow, the American companies having fallen behind on the deadlines set by the federal state, due to problems in the supply chains. And this while the country is approaching a holiday period which should already prove to be particularly busy.
