The airline Royal Air Maroc today announced the cancellation of flights to and from France on June 6 due to a notice of a civil service strike in France.
“Following the public service strike notice in France on June 6, 2023, relayed by the DGAC unions, all airlines were invited to reduce their number of flights. As a result, Royal Air Maroc is canceling flights to and from France on June 6, 2023,” Royal Air Maroc said in a statement.
In its press release, Royal Air Maroc underlined its commitment to help affected customers by rebooking them on alternative flights. Passengers who have provided contact details in their booking records will receive emails and text messages notifying them of their updated flight arrangements.
Royal Air Maroc has urged passengers holding tickets to and from France to check the status of their changed flights and review or update their contact details through the managed reservations section on the airline’s website.
For customers holding tickets on canceled flights who do not wish to travel on the available alternatives, Royal Air Maroc has offered two options.
The airline said it might refund its tickets using the original form of payment. Alternatively, passengers can request a free change of travel dates, subject to availability, either to the same destination or to another destination in the Royal Air Maroc network in France.
The new travel date must fall within 15 days of the original flight date, provided the original length of stay remains the same.
Royal Air Maroc has advised passengers whose flights have been canceled and who have not yet received confirmation of their rescheduled flights to avoid traveling to the airport. He should rather contact the initial point of sale or the call center of Royal Air Maroc to confirm his rescheduled flights or inquire regarding the aforementioned provisions.
The civil service strike in France is part of a larger multi-sector national strike and associated protests planned by trade unions and opposition parties on June 6. It is the fourteenth such event since January, part of an ongoing campaign once morest the government’s pension reforms.
According to Archyde.com, lawmakers are due to discuss a bill proposed by the opposition Liot party on June 8, which aims to reverse the pension age reform. In response, the unions said the June 6 industrial action aims to “give all workers a voice in MPs”.
In April 2023, French President Emmanuel Macron signed a controversial bill to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, despite massive protests across the country in opposition to the reform.
