The closing ceremony of the Olympic Games at the Stade de France on Sunday evening is sad news for sports fans, but a relief for the RATP and SNCF. The country’s largest stadium has been a major challenge in terms of transportation since the start of the Games. Because there are two tests per day, this constitutes a whole new flow of passengers that the RATP and SNCF need to manage. But here, as in the rest of the country, the reliability of these Olympic Games is there, 100% accessible by public transport.
Show flexibility
As a result, Ile-de-France Mobilités has seen a historic influx of visitors, with more than 4 million visitors a day. But the latter is to be expected. Rarely do unpleasant surprises occur, including at the Stade de France, where we have to manage a flow of up to 1,000 people per minute. If something unexpected happens, we have to react in real time and show flexibility, just as the future Olympic champion took his time.
“When the Swede Armand Duplantis jumped, he took his time. Therefore, the spectators came out much later. We had to adapt. The travelers saw nothing, but we had to postpone all our plans for a full half an hour”, confided the Euro 1, SNCF president Jean-Pierre Farandou.
Demand for Line 14 is greater than expected
The same adaptation was done by the RATP side, which was surprised by the crowd at the French club in La Villette and quickly revised the copy to simplify the process for supporters. The company was also surprised The company’s CEO, Jean Castex, is delighted by the success of the extension of Line 14 near the Stade de France, which carries 20% of the spectators. “It changes the situation so much that it even hinders our own model!” assures the former prime minister.
Then, thanks to the increased number of staff and the use of dedicated Olympic lanes on the roads, the teams are able to intervene more quickly, whether to repair a mechanical accident or to resolve a doubt after a forgotten baggage. Finally, regarding the legacy of these Games, the SNCF and especially the RATP welcome the recruitment of drivers, jobs that will continue even after the Paralympic Games.
