The liberals obtained the extension of the regime in exchange for a strengthening of the status and salary of flexi-jobers requested by the socialists. The employer contribution is increased.
That was probably the point the most delicate of this budgetary conclave, namely the extension of flexi-jobs demanded by the liberals. In the end, it was decided to extend this special regime to twelve new sectors of activity, in addition to the ten existing ones.
New sectors include childcare, education, food, automotive, sports, agriculture, events and real estate. This extension should make it possible to increase the activity rate and, consequently, state revenues.
28%
The employer contribution for a flexi-job will increase from 25% to 28%.
More than 120,000 people have already used the flexi-jobs system, recalled the office of Prime Minister Alexander De Croo (Open Vld). The hospitality industry was, originally, the only sector authorized to use flexi-job workers. The formula has gradually been extended to other sectors (bakery, butcher, etc.). Since this year, it has also been authorized in the healthcare, sports, entertainment and cinema sectors.
For certain categories of workers, particularly the least qualified, it is a way to make ends meet flexiblywithout too many constraints or administrative procedures.
A better status
Alongside the expansion of the sectors concerned, the status of flexi-job workers will be improved, which should make it possible to pass the pill on the side of the PS. This notably involves an increase in salary. Since December 1, 2022, the minimum amount of the hourly flexi-wage amounts to 10,97 euros. This summer, the salary granted to flexi-job workers was on average 13 euros gross, according to Liantis.
The employer contribution will increase from 25% to 28% in order to better finance the plan. A certain number of anti-abuse provisions will also be introduced, in particular to avoid putting a regular worker into a flexi-job regime, said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Employment Pierre-Yves Dermagne (PS).
The extension of the flexi-jobs regime has been welcomed by employers, in particular by Unizo, which represents the self-employed and SMEs in Flanders. “For sectors such as moving, funeral directors, food or events, this is very good news,” rejoiced Danny Van Assche, managing director of Unizo.
The Flemish employers’ organization, however, regrets that other sectors, which were also in demand, such as taxis, were not able to benefit from it. “We would have preferred to open flexi-jobs to all sectors of activity.”
