Fleurimont Hospital: nurses in the operating room in “sit-in”

The nurses of the operating room of the Fleurimont hospital in Sherbrooke, in the Eastern Townships, are in “sit-in” Thursday morning. They refuse to work, following having repeatedly denounced their working conditions.

Discussions have taken place between managers and nurses in the hope that they will return to work, confirmed the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS. The sit-in was finally lifted in the followingnoon

No surgeries scheduled for Thursday have been canceled.

The establishment wishes to reassure the population that all urgent operations will take place.

Last May, regarding fifteen nurses in the operating room had launched a cry from the heart regarding the lack of staff.

They feared then to face one of the worst crises in their department for more than a decade.

At the end of the day, several hours following the end of the “sit-in”, the union which represents the nursing staff of the hospital took stock.

“The care professionals in the operating room at the Fleurimont Hospital reacted strongly this morning to an announcement from their employer which changed the way work schedules were established. […] the healthcare professionals remained available to intervene in the event of an emergency,” we said.
