Fleurance: students marvel at the sky

At the end of June, 20 students in 5th and 6th grades (11-12 years old) from the “Club astro”, from the Hubert-Reeves college in Fleurance, spent an evening of observation at the Hameau des Étoiles, supervised by MM. Bianchini and Mauras. The first, teaching physics, allows to approach the mechanics of celestial bodies. The second, a history-geography professor, recalls the long, slow and endless astronomical research. As for the students, they themselves worked and researched subjects as varied and specialized as black holes, sundials, the ISS, planets, nebulae, etc.

During the evening, a superb presentation by Mickaël Wilmart allowed the students, who were wide-eyed, to travel through space, before looking at it up close. The Universe Observation Dome, equipped with powerful audiovisual equipment, allows you to completely immerse yourself in the celestial vault and discover its beauty and wonders.

The retractable roof of the Dome opened, on this peaceful and starry evening, to reveal to college students the largest planetarium in the world: the sky! An unforgettable show for young and old. The twenty young people, future astronomers perhaps, were able to discover the sky as they had never seen it before. They were guided in locating the main stars and constellations… And even that evening, Elon Musk’s “train” of Starlink satellites… A breathtaking experience!
