The Flemish government introduced a discount two years⁢ ago to reduce the⁤ impact of green subsidies on grid costs for households in Flanders. This discount, which amounted ​to 67 million euros last year, has​ been scrapped by the ​current government.⁤ For an average‌ Flemish family, this results in an ⁣additional cost of ​15.72 ​euros per⁣ year, calculated by the Flemish Utility Regulator at⁢ the request of VRT News.

While the flemish government indicated ​a tax⁢ shift from ‌electricity to gas, it remains unclear when this shift will occur. Additionally, it does⁢ not impact the annual invoice. “We are busy drawing up a proposal to reduce ​electricity prices,” responds​ the office of Flemish energy Minister ⁢Melissa Depraetere (Vooruit). “we hope⁢ to come up with a proposal as‌ soon as possible.”

The government has not ‌clarified ‍whether there will be compensation ‍for the lost discount. Despite their promise not to increase⁤ the​ electricity bill, the absence⁢ of a correction suggests a potential rise.
