This Saturday morning, the body of a woman was found, swept away by the heavy floods that hit various areas of the Ouarzazate region last Friday evening, while the search is still ongoing for another woman, from the same family as the deceased, who was reported missing during these floods.

According to local sources, thunderstorms and heavy rains caused the loss of the two women concerned, who hail from Douar Amasin in the Ighrem N’Ougdal commune, before one of them was found dead.

The same sources confirmed that the Wadi Tamestint river swept away the two people concerned, which was confirmed after finding the body of one of them, while the search is still ongoing to find the other.

The Royal Gendarmerie and Civil Protection services, supported by the village residents, began searching for missing persons last night, Friday, after the heavy rainfall in the Ouarzazate region caused severe flooding that led to significant material losses.

The torrential rains damaged some homes and caused some roads to be blocked, while residents felt terror and fear as hail fell for more than half an hour without interruption, which also caused the electricity grid and telephone network to be cut off in a number of villages.

In relation to the same topic, social media activists circulated videos of the rise in the flow of many valleys, which caused traffic to stop.

The General Directorate of Meteorology reported that thunderstorms (from 15 to 25 mm) accompanied by hail and gusts of wind will affect a number of regions of the Kingdom.

The Directorate explained, in an orange alert warning bulletin, that these thunderstorms are expected in Ouarzazate and Azilal (from 5:15 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.), as well as in the prefectures and provinces of Figuig, Boulemane, Errachidia, Midelt and Tinghir (from 5:15 p.m. to midnight), starting yesterday, Friday.
