The general mobile and internet network outage is gradually recovering in Flanders
Everything is regarding to return to normal. Since last night, the internet and mobile network has been severely disrupted, even cut, for more than 25,000 users in Flanders. The outage affects Hazebrouck, Bailleul, Cassel and Steenvoorde in particular.
An act of vandalism
Since early Saturday, October 21, Orange services have been working to restore the network, which was cut following an act of vandalism. A transmission cable located near Hazebrouck was cut. “The cable is now repaired”, Orange said around 3 p.m.
Even if the outage particularly affects Orange customers, other operators have also been affected.
This general outage caused major inconveniences from Cassel, Steenvoorde to Merville, via Hazebrouck and Bailleul, particularly for brands such as Leclerc, where drive-thru orders had to be put on hold.
Bank card payments impacted all morning
The outage also affected bank card payments. Supermarkets, small businesses, gas pumps… TPEs were no longer functional in many municipalities in interior Flanders and Flanders-Lys.
A gradual return since noon
Around 12 p.m., the network seemed to reappear little by little. “We have had a gradual return of fixed and mobile services since 12:15 p.m. Our teams remain mobilized to continue the restoration of all services,” Orange explained.
