Groen co-presidents Nadia Naji and Jeremie Vaneeckhout are not candidates for a new mandate at the head of the Flemish party.

Nadia Naji and Jeremie Vaneeckhout will not be candidates for their own succession to Groen’s presidencyannounced the Flemish environmentalist party this Friday evening. The co-presidents will remain in office until the end of year holidays. By then, Groen members will have appointed new management.

Their decision had already been made in June, admitted those involved. But they only decided to share it with party membersafter the municipal campaign. “We worked hard every day with a lot of energy and dynamism. And although we managed to create pride, team spirit and fire again in Groen, this is not yet reflected in the election results. This requires even more time and work,” laments Jeremie Vaneeckhout.

According to Nadia Naji, the foundations are now laid. The new presidents will be able to continue the work from December and will be able to count on the full support of the outgoing duo.

The new tandem will be known in mid-December

Groen’s presidential election is scheduled for the weekend of December 14. The winner will be announced on December 16 or December 19, depending on the number of rounds of voting required.

In the municipality of Anzegem, in West Flanders, the list led by Jeremie Vaneeckhout came second on Sunday with 21.2% of the votes, insufficient to counter the absolute majority in place. Nadia Naji pushed the Ecolo-Groen list in Molenbeek. With 528 preference votes, she was not elected to the municipal council.
