The event not to be missed this weekend is Flammes à Bomal. At nightfall, in groups of 50 to 80 people, the walkers set off to meet 17 strange characters scattered in 5 sketches.
This year’s theme is Heart of Stone. “We started on the stones, to wink at the stones of the Durbuy region”explains Luc Godard, one of the 5 members of the writing workshop for the various sketches with Delphine Piroton, Sylviane Restiaux, Nancy Collard and Christine Walczynski.
We can mention in particular: the Roche-à-Frêne, the Rocher aux Corneilles, the Cross of the priest of Xhignesse and of course, the menhirs and the dolmens of Wéris.
Visitors are led to solve an enigma and understand why and how certain stones light up. In addition to delving into tales and legends, participants can’t miss a few stories from the region’s past. “I come every year, but I learned one more thing today. It’s really good to have a bit of history”, says a visitor. It takes 3 kilometers of walking with a route that begins along the Aisne to Juzaine, then you have to climb to the belvedere of Bomal, then go down to the municipal park through the private property of the castle.
When the walk is over, visitors find themselves in the municipal park to toast over a drink, have a bite to eat with the various associations or local businesses present such as the Bomal football club, the Barvaux scouts, the Glorieux Saint brotherhood -Hubert, the brotherhood of Beaujolais enthusiasts, the Bomal Youth Club, the ASBL Durbuy Rock Festival, the Houard farm, Perlin Pin Peint, Durbuy Z and Délices & Malices.
Other activities are also offered such as the Flammèches at 8 p.m., games of yesteryear or even folk concerts. Without forgetting that at the end of the evening takes place the sound and light show with its pyrotechnic effects.
Remember that Flammes attracts around 3,000 people over the 3 days and more than 250 volunteers work to keep the village alive. “Even if it is the Syndicat d’initiative de Bomal which organizes it every year, without the young people, without the workers and employees, Flammes would not take place”, recognizes Pascal Delzandre.
