For the third year in a row, the Tahrir Cultural Center at the American University in Cairo is hosting the “She is the Arts” festival, headed by Nevin El-Qenawy, which specializes in arts created by women. Its third session begins next Thursday, September 28, and continues until October 1, at the Tahrir Cultural Center in Cairo and the Jesuit Cultural Center. In the governorates of Alexandria and Minya, the opening ceremony will be performed by the international Egyptian opera singer, mezzo-soprano Gala El Hadidy, accompanied by the “She is the Arts” orchestra, which was formed specifically for the festival, led by Maestro Donia El Deghaidy, followed by a concert by the Spanish “Las Migas” band, which is performing for the first time in the festival. Nevin Qenawi, founder and director of the festival, said: This session includes a program full of diverse artistic creations by talented artists from all over the world, including 14 concerts, 3 film screenings, 4 workshops, 4 dance performances, a music competition, a theatrical show, and a photographic exhibition titled “womanhood”.

Participating in the festival from Egypt are the artist Dina El-Wedidi, Fatima Adel, the Tabla El-Sitt Band, and harp player Mona Wassef, and a rap concert with the artists “Darine”, “Fati” and “Hala”, in addition to a wave concert for children to spread artistic and cultural awareness presented by the children of the “Hala” band. “Fabrica” under the supervision of Dr. Nevin Allouba and the German School Choir in Alexandria. For the first time, the festival hosts an artist from Saudi Arabia, the young artist “So-and-so,” and the Nigerian-Italian artist Anna Bassi, who presents a special mix of African music, folk, pop and soul music, in addition to the Lebanese artist. Talia Lahoud, the Filipa Biscaia Band from Portugal, the Armenian singer Dalita, the Asia Madani Band from Sudan, and the Cacha Muninho Band, which offers a diverse musical mix that combines the atmosphere of India, Brazil, Portugal, the Middle East and North Africa.

The festival’s program includes distinguished theatrical and dance performances: “What the hell am I doing here?!” By director and choreographer Carole Akkad, “Black” is a theatrical story show regarding women’s issues, by the “Akas Akkas” troupe, “Tassity” is a contemporary dance show regarding the situation of Sudanese women, designed and directed by Nagham Salah, and “The Isolated Island” is a contemporary Sudanese folklore show by the “Isolated Island” troupe. From Here We Start,” choreographed by Hadeel Al-Hadi, and directed by Nagham Salah.

The festival will screen three films: “Poco,” a feature film, directed by Alice Neel from the Czech Republic, “Mount of Girls,” an Egyptian short film directed by Sherine Atef, and “That Part of the Body,” directed by Batoul El-Daawi, an Egyptian/Syrian production.

The festival organizes training workshops in various fields, the first entitled: “How to Write a Short Film Script” by director Hala Khalil, another musical workshop with the “Las Migas” band from Spain, a folk and contemporary dance workshop with Nagham Salah, in addition to a lecture on music management with Nikisha. Billy is from the United States of America to learn regarding the world of the music industry and its professional details, and to encourage emerging female artists in the world of music. The festival organizes a music competition for singers, instrumentalists and composers, and the jury chooses two winners, each of whom receives a financial prize.
