Fixing EVMs for Fair Elections: Sam Pitroda’s Concerns and Suggestions

New Delhi ∙ Congress leader Sam Pitroda said that BJP can win more than 400 seats in next year’s Lok Sabha elections if the defects in voting machines are not fixed. Pithroda said that the future of India is determined by the elections and the VVPAT system should be reformed. Pitroda shared his concern in an interview with a national news agency.

“The next general election will decide the future of our country. We want a nation where civil society can function freely and give equal rights to all religious groups as envisioned by our constitution. Constitutional institutions should be able to regain their autonomy. Apart from this, do we need a country dominated by any particular group?

The VVPAT system should be reformed as suggested by the committee headed by Justice Madan B. Lokur. Voters must be able to ensure that the person they voted for has received their vote. Democracy has been subverted. “If the problem of voting machines is not resolved, BJP will win more than 400 seats,” said Pitroda.

Pitroda clarified that the BJP has twisted his remarks regarding the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Religion is individualistic. He is firm on the position that religion and politics should not be mixed. He added that the ‘India’ front is facing the election without nominating anyone for the post of Prime Minister.
