What OÖN readers have known regarding for some time is now perfect: At the end of April, the OÖN had already reported exclusively on the blue-white interest in a return of Thomas Goiginger, and today, Friday, the 31-year-old striker signed a contract until 2026.
The Salzburg native made his final breakthrough in professional football in the Royal Blues’ jersey: Goiginger played a total of 36 times for the Blue-Whites in the 2016/17 season, scoring 8 goals and providing 10 assists. After his first season with the Blue-Whites, he developed into an absolute top player in the Bundesliga, then played 177 games in Austria’s top division, scoring 37 goals and providing another 37 assists. The former Austrian national team player also made numerous international appearances in the Europa League and Conference League.
After his time in Austria, the offensive player continued his career in the second German league with VfL Osnabrück last winter. FC Blau-Weiß Linz is now delighted to welcome Thomas Goiginger back to its ranks in the blue and white jersey as an experienced striker. “I am delighted that we can present Thomas Goiginger as an absolute top reinforcement as a new signing. In addition to his great experience, both nationally and internationally, he brings with him his indomitable will and mentality, and above all a lot of goal threat. Goigi will not only be a great reinforcement, but also a leader for our team and especially for the young players. The fact that we were able to prevail once morest other interested parties and convince him of our path at Blau-Weiß Linz also shows that we as a whole club are on a very good path,” said Christoph Schößwendter, Sports Director of FC Blau-Weiß Linz.
“The discussions with those in charge were very appreciative and a lot of trust was placed in me as a person and in my strengths and that was an important decision-making factor for me, especially following the mixed last season. The team did well last season in the year they were promoted and I want to do my part to be successful,” says Thomas Goiginger.
