ABU DHABI: A campaign has been launched in the UAE to encourage drivers to adhere to the safety code of conduct at petrol stations. It is led by the Media Committee of the Joint National Campaign for the Safety of Petrol Stations. The campaign has been planned under the theme ‘Five tips for your safety’. The aim is to raise awareness among drivers regarding the correct procedures to be followed when approaching petrol stations to fill up with fuel.
The five main suggestions are to reduce the speed of the vehicle to 20 km per hour when entering the station, do not get out of the vehicle unless necessary, avoid smoking, turn off the engine and ensure that the fuel tank is closed following filling the fuel.
The fourth edition of the campaign which started on 26th of this month will continue till 25th of September. It is estimated that the target has been achieved for the last three editions.
The campaign has been instrumental in raising the security awareness rate at petrol stations from 54 per cent to 95 per cent.
