FIFA President Gianni Infantino and FIFA Refereeing Committee Chairman Pierre Luigi Colina made the announcement at a news conference following the 136th IFOB meeting in Doha. The meeting approved the football rules for the 2022-23 season. Effective July 1. In addition, the team’s reserve bench allowed the capacity to be increased from 12 to 15. With the permission of FIFA, the World Cup organizers, teams heading to Qatar can add up to a 26-member squad, with a reserve of 15.

It was only when the games resumed following the Kovid expansion that it was decided to increase the number of substitutions from three to five, taking into account the fitness of the players. The proposal, which began in May 2020, has been followed by leagues and international championships in various countries. He returned to three substitutions in the English Premier League last season but was told at a meeting last March that five substitution rules would be reinstated from next season. Semi-automated offside technology has also been approved to make offside determination more accurate.

Pierre Luigi Colina said the semi-automated offside technology, which is currently implemented with the help of artificial intelligence, might help make a decision in four seconds if the current VAR decision on offside took up to four minutes.
