Five regions have registered a record of new infections since the start of the pandemic and Tarapacá has one active case for every 60 inhabitants.

These are the main conclusions of the report that the Minsal released this Thursday, January 20, regarding the cases of Covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours.

According to health authorities During the last day Chile reported 12,500 new cases of Covid, marking a new high for the entire pandemic; further, for the first time the country exceeded the barrier of 10,000 infected daily.

The five regions that reported record today are: Arica and Parinacota (640), Antofagasta (1,093), Coquimbo (425), Valparaíso (1,124) and Magallanes (454). In fact, Antofagasta and Valparaíso for the first time report more than a thousand infections daily.

In this sense, the situation remains complex in Tarapacá, a region that continues to lead the incidence rate at the national level. Today it reported 1,661.2 contagions per 100,000 inhabitants, which translates into one active case for every 60 people.

While in Magallanes the incidence rate is 1,313.2 and in Arica it is 1,271.9; being the only three regions of the country that exceed the barrier of one thousand.

Metropolitan 5 thousand new cases

On the other hand, the Metropolitan Region also registers a significant rise in new cases of coronavirus.

According to the latest report, The capital had 5,050 new cases in the last 24 hours, the highest figure since June 14, 2020 (5,647 cases) and the fifth highest number of infections since the start of the pandemic.

So far in January, the RM reports 42,364 people infected with Covid-19.
