Five people were murdered on public roads in the municipality of La Unión, Valle del Cauca, this Sunday morning.
This new massacre occurred when armed individuals opened fire indiscriminately once morest a group of people who were conversing outside a house in the La Ciudadela neighborhood.
Also, Five people were injured in this violent act and had to be transferred to a care center.
“The five injured were taken to the Gonzalo Contreras municipal hospital. Due to the seriousness of the injuries, one of them was apparently sent to Tuluá, while the other four are in a stable condition.”William Palomino, mayor of La Unión, told SEMANA.
Palomino explained that the attacked citizens conversed until dawn this Sunday in the bars of the municipality and then, when the party was over, they went to the place where the massacre occurred to continue with the party, without waiting for approximately 7:00 am were going to be attacked with a firearm.
For now it is unknown if the gunmen were traveling in a vehicle or on foot. “All this is a matter of investigation by the authorities,” he mentioned.
However, the mayor of La Unión stated that the municipality is going through “a fairly complex situation regarding the micro-trafficking of narcotics.”
Because of these crimes, this Monday a security council will be held in which the departmental authorities will be present and police officers, including Walter Camilo Murcia, Secretary of Security and Coexistence of Valle del Cauca.
It is expected that following this meeting a reward for information will be announced to find the whereregardings of those responsible for the massacre.
“We hope to start working hard on a plan that allows us to control this wave of violence that has been going on in the municipality for the last month,” he said.
It should be remembered that on July 10, a similar episode occurred in this municipality in the north of the department. On that occasion, gunmen on motorcycles attacked a group of young people in the La Ermita sector.
These shots claimed the life of an adult at the scene and, hours later, of a 13-year-old adolescent who had been referred to a hospital in Pereira. An 11-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man were also hit by bullets and were injured in this incident.
According to the Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz), this year 52 massacres have been perpetrated in the country, with a balance of 185 victims.
Meanwhile, the Ombudsman’s Office rejected the massacre in La Unión and expressed its concern at these criminal acts. “The violent acts that have been taking place between organized criminal groups in municipalities in the north of Valle del Cauca are worrying. With our Regional we carry out monitoring and ask the authorities for speed in the investigations, ”said the entity on Twitter.
