The collision injured five people, including three people in serious condition, firefighters said. The victims were admitted to three area hospitals.
The Wallonia Picardy emergency services were alerted around 6:30 a.m. that a traffic accident had occurred along the A8/E42 motorway at the Froyennes exit (Tournai). Coming from various barracks, an extrication vehicle, a marking truck, two SMURs, four ambulances and a command vehicle were dispatched to the scene.
For a reason that the investigation will have to determine, a car registered in France and which was heading towards the Chaussée de Tournai swerved. The vehicle, the only one involved, ended its race once morest a tree.
Five people were in the crashed vehicle. Three are seriously injured and two more lightly. The victims were transferred to hospitals in Tournai, Mouscron and Kortrijk.
