MEXICO CITY (AP) — At least five people were killed and two others were injured in the explosion of a clandestine fireworks warehouse in central Mexico, state authorities announced Tuesday.

The incident occurred following noon in a home in the town of La Blanca, in the municipality of Santiago de Anaya in the central state of Hidalgo, state Civil Protection said in a statement.

In the explosion of the powder keg, five people died, including a minor, and two others were injured and taken to a health center, according to the preliminary report of that entity.

The house where the clandestine winery operated, which was completely destroyed, was cordoned off by the municipal police awaiting the arrival of the state Attorney General’s Office to begin search work in the collapsed structure.

Local media indicated that the strong explosion was seen several kilometers away.

Nine months ago, a similar event was recorded in the Totolapan municipality, in the central state of Morelos, where the explosion of a clandestine fireworks warehouse left seven dead and 15 injured.
