Greece continues to impress at the Olympic Games and so far our athletes have won five medals. The moments of eternal glory that our champions live in Paris cannot be described in words.
The Athenian-Macedonian News Agency (APE-MPE) met five Olympians at the most historic place in the French capital, the Eiffel Tower, and they were photographed with the medals on their chests. In a historic meeting, as the “silver” in the 200m. backstroke, Apostolos Christou and the “bronze” rowing crews, Antonis Papakonstantinou-Petros Gaidatzis and Zoi Fitsiu-Milena Kontou joined forces and generously offered joy.
Their fatigue was obvious, but how could it not be, when they “raised” Greece on their backs and made us proud. The center of Paris, around the Eiffel Tower, was the most difficult point to access as the bike tour took place, but that didn’t deter us!
We tried hard, but in the end we got it right! In fact, before we found the most ideal spot for the photo shoot by Achilles Widow, we asked ourselves, with an obvious dose of humor, whether it was easier to win an Olympic medal or to approach the Eiffel tower…
Apostolos Christou was exhausted from the over-exertion he made. After all, his emotions and mental strength were greatly tested. “From hell to heaven, as if it were a movie script” he told us happily. The “silver” Olympic champion “wrote history” and became the first Greek swimmer to win a medal in the pool.

At the same time, our girls… were shining. The fatigue was clearly visible in their eyes, but the success is very great! “We haven’t realized it yet. The love of the world is so great that we have not yet had time to read the messages that have been sent to us”.

The meeting point is below the officials cocktail bar at the Beach Volley facility. A beautiful spot with a view of the Eiffel Tower. As soon as our athletes were noticed, with the medals they won, the attendees immediately called us to go up. In fact, in an attempt to convince the athletes, they also offered them… champagne, but the fatigue was so great that our Olympians could not accept the offer!
“We have not understood what has happened, maybe we will realize it in… thirty years”, said Petros Gaidatzis, while Antonis Papakonstantinou was enjoying the… photos with the volunteers and passers-by.
It was the first time, as far as I could remember, that five Olympians, immediately after their successes, were photographed for a Media. And this meeting took place for the Athenian-Macedonian News Agency.
This historic meeting started with a small… adventure, as we couldn’t get close to the Eiffel Tower and… it ended with an adventure! After spending almost two hours at the symbolic monument of Paris and having first obtained the necessary approval from the security officer, it was time to leave!
Before we could leave and while it was starting to drizzle, we were approached by four people from the facility’s security, as we hadn’t gone through… screening! The necessary explanations were given and after they kept our information, they allowed us to leave.
The feeling of being close to five Olympians is indescribable, all we could say to them when leaving was a huge thank you!
