Another group of mayors who were from the opposition declared themselves “independent” on Tuesday, July 23, and announced their support for the candidacy of Nicolás Maduro.
On this occasion, the mayors of the Trujillo state: Dilcia Rojas (Campo Elias Municipality), Wilmer Delgado (Monte Carmelo Municipality), Heriberto Materan Tapia (Motatán Municipality), Francisco Aguilar (Andrés Bello Municipality), Cervando Godoy (José Felipe Márquez Cañizales Municipality), announced their support for Chavismo.
“We have decided to break with the sectarianism and impositions of the Caracas elites and support the candidacy of Nicolás Maduro. The way forward for Venezuela is not violence, hatred or confrontation between Venezuelans“, they argued through a video.
“After long days of consultations between us, our families and our political teams, we have made the decision to break with the Command with Venezuela and the policy of humiliation and imposition of María Corina Machado.“, they added.
