Five kilometers for Alzheimer’s research | Langeoog Current

On Friday followingnoon, the sports team of the Tourismus-Service-Langeoog, together with the participants, drew attention to the disease as part of a Langeooger World Alzheimer’s Run and supported the research work with the run. On behalf of the sports team, Dajana Gliesche thanked everyone who had taken part in the spontaneously offered campaign. Together they then set out running or walking on a 5-kilometer route around the town.

There were similar campaigns worldwide. For every kilometer run, the Alzheimer Research Initiative eV donated 20 cents to help make Alzheimer’s curable.

Alzheimer’s disease – also known as “Alzheimer’s dementia” – is the most common form of dementia and an incurable disorder of the brain. Due to the death of nerve cells in the brain, people with Alzheimer’s become increasingly forgetful, confused and ultimately disoriented. As the disease progresses, the memory, consciousness and personality of those affected are increasingly destroyed. This is often a very painful and tormenting process for both patients and their families.

The Alzheimer Research Initiative eV (AFI) has been working for more than 25 years to find a cure for the disease of forgetting. However, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia are complex diseases that are still not fully understood.
