EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has seized five horses for animal abandonment.
According to EPSO, they mention that on September 10th the communications center for the county received a call from the U.S. Department of Agriculture who received information about several horses in poor health and condition on Alta Vista Road in El Paso County which is south of Simla.
Deputies with EPSO responded and found five horses on the property. According to deputies, they say all five horses appeared malnourished and three of them were in serious poor health. They were found without food on the property but did have water. Because of this, deputies determined that the horses needed urgent attention.
On September 12, county deputies, an investigator with the Colorado Department of Agriculture and Colorado Humane together returned to the property to seize and remove the five horses. They were transported to a local rescue facility where they were treated for malnutrition and other medical conditions.
Mindy Gonzales, 49, was fined. She is the tenant of the property and owner of the horses. She faces five counts of animal cruelty.
