Thiruvananthapuram: In the South Zone Women’s League cycling concluded in Thiruvananthapuram last day, Idukki girl Agsa Ann Thomas made Kerala proud with seven medals including five gold. Agsa won five gold, one silver and one bronze in the track and road competitions. Kerala came second with nine golds in the league and more than half of them were won by this 17-year-old.
Agsa, who won gold in scratch race, sprint and individual pursuit track events, took to the road with a bicycle and won gold in mass start and time trial. On the track, he won silver in the time trial and bronze in the Kiren race. Agsa, who has won several medals at the junior level, won silver in the Kiren race at the last national championship. Khelo was also a medalist at the Indian championship.
Agsa, who was previously in the Sports Council’s hostel, has been training at LNCPE in Karyavattam for a year. Former national player V. Rajani is the coach. Rajini says that Agsa has the potential to win medals at the international level in the future. Agsa is the daughter of PU Thomas and Bindu Thomas, who run a vegetable shop in Chetukuzhi, Idukki.

Agsa’s sister-in-law Anaxia Thomas was among those who won medals in the women’s league. Anaxia, who won two silver and bronze medals in the under-16 category, is also training at LNCPE.
