Five members of a gang behind a daring daytime robbery at the HLM on September 6 have been put out of action. According to the newspaper Libération, the criminals were brought before the public prosecutor for group robbery committed with violence, use of rolling stock, bladed weapons and toxic substances.
The alleged perpetrators were apprehended upon their return to Dakar after taking refuge in Sédhiou to escape the police. It was following a thorough investigation conducted by elements of the Urban Security (SU) that the police forces burst into an apartment in Cité Mixta, where two of the main suspects, Mr. Diop alias “Papa bou ndaw” and SM Guèye nicknamed “Petit Mouha”, were arrested. Questioned by the investigators, the latter revealed how the robbery unfolded.
According to their confessions, the gang had split into two groups, after having gone to the scene on four scooters. While the majority of the members positioned themselves discreetly outside the Banque Internationale pour le Sénégal (BIS), located at the EMG roundabout, another accomplice went inside to identify a customer making a large withdrawal. The trader O. Diaw, who had just withdrawn a substantial sum, thus became their target.
Another member of the gang, PG Faye, was arrested in a mechanical workshop in Grand-Yoff thanks to information provided by “Petit Mouha”. Taxi driver D. Dione, who had transported the robbers after their crime, had already been arrested after the discovery of 990,000 FCFA, from the 6 million stolen, in the trunk of his vehicle.
