The Lebanese group Hezbollah and its ally, the Amal movement, announced today that five of their members were killed in Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon, near the border with Israel.
After the deadly attack by Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023, there are daily exchanges of fire on the Israel-Lebanon border between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, which says it supports the Palestinian movement in the war in Gaza. The pro-Iranian Hezbollah targets Israeli military positions and communities near the border. Israel responds with bombings on Lebanese soil, mainly in the south, against Hezbollah and Hamas fighters.
Today, Hezbollah said two of its fighters were killed in Israeli airstrikes, without giving further details. At the same time, it claimed responsibility for nine attacks against Israeli army positions in northern Israel. The Amal movement also announced that two of its members had been killed.
According to Lebanon’s national news agency ANI, three people were killed by an Israeli strike on an Amal center in Jdeidet Marjayoun, which is 10 kilometers from the border, and two more by a strike in the border community of Aita el Shaab.
An Israeli military spokesman, Avishai Andrae, said via Platform X that the Israeli Air Force bombed Hezbollah infrastructure, including “a military building in Haita el Shaab.”
Earlier, in a televised speech, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said his movement had not yet used its “main” weapons in battle and reiterated that the attacks would stop when the war in Gaza stopped.
