It is a gift welcomed with pleasure by the CHU of Martinique. Five exoskeletons worth €5,140 were offered by the Rotary Club of Lamentin this Thursday, May 5. This technology is intended for healthcare personnel. It relieves them when they have to take care of patients.
The Covid-19 pandemic has amplified musculoskeletal disorders according to representatives of the CHU, in particular with the ‘ventral decubitus’. “This manipulation consists of turning the patient over to put him on his stomach to help him breathe better,” explains the CHU. And to add: “In the case of obese patients, this requires a large number of staff, for the safety of the patient and for their own”.
“Wear like a garment”
This technology makes it possible in particular to reduce the workload and muscle fatigue. Indeed the elasticity of the textile stores energy “when the user leans forward and releases this same energy when one begins to lift the object, providing up to 10kg of assistance to the muscles of the back and legs. hips”, details the CHU of Martinique. According to the latter, the exoskeleton “is worn like a garment”. It can therefore be used in many situations, especially in small spaces.
To several hospitals
The material is intended for health personnel in the intensive care units above all, but also in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Mangot Vulcin hospital and the long-term care unit at the Domergue Trinité hospital. “These services have in common the need to mobilize patients with reduced mobility due to their state of health”, concludes the CHU.
