Doha: The Doha Metro, which revolutionized Qatar’s public transport, has more than five million passengers. Starting May 8, 2019, the Doha Metro, which has revolutionized the country’s three-lane public transport system, had a capacity of 50 million passengers on Tuesday. The passenger, who turned out to be a milestone, was honored by authorities at Qatar University Station with a 50 million card and a Momento.
It has been three years since so many people used the Metro service in the country. The Doha Metro has been instrumental in Qatar’s major fairs and sports tournaments. The number of passengers during the FIFA Arab Cup last November-December also set a record. More than 2.5 million people traveled on the metro in these 19 days.
The Doha Metro will be the backbone of the country’s public transport system at the FIFA World Cup later this year. Of the eight World Cup stadiums, five are directly connected to the metro. Shuttle service buses are also available from the metro stations to the other three stadiums. The organizers are preparing for the World Cup with the strength that they have tested and won in the FIFA Arab Cup.
