On the morning of this Saturday, October 12, the explosion of a sewage pipe was recorded that affected more than five blocks in the Popular #1 neighborhood of the city of Medellín. The authorities are investigating whether there was an improper dumping of substances into the network.

The event occurred in the La Galera sector, where this strong explosion was recorded at approximately 8:00 am, so far around 20 houses were affected.

Some residents of the neighborhood expressed the fright they experienced “This was horrible, it was a very horrible experience, a horrible explosion, I was all lying down and when I heard the explosion I stopped in surprise and I fell, I hit myself and when I come out I see that all this is there “Everything destroyed,” said Zobeida Betancourt, a resident affected by the explosion.

The authorities state that the information available at the time of the investigation is that there was evidence of dumping of improper elements into the sewers of this sector and that could have caused this explosion. They also confirmed that there were no injuries in the situation and they are evaluating the damage to homes, pipes and sewage infrastructure.

EPM, for its part, activated the safety protocol with signage and demarcation of the affected area to avoid accidents and is currently cleaning the area to avoid obstructions in the networks. In addition, they call on citizens to take care of the infrastructure of these services.
