Fitness guru Richard Simmons has died, aged 76

Los Angeles police responded to his home following receiving a 911 call from his housekeeper, melder ABC News. TMZ first reported the death.

Simmons was pronounced dead at the scene. He probably died of natural causes, and there is no suspicion of anything criminal, according to the police.

After his birthday on Friday, he thanked his supporters for all the messages he had received, and he wrote in a Facebook post that he was then in the process of answering emails he had received from supporters.

Simmons, who was known as an eccentric man with tireless positivity, posted a post on Facebook three months ago. The lyrics struck a chord with his fans.

– I have some news to announce. Don’t be sad. I am dying. Oh, I can see their faces now. The truth is we all die. Every day that passes, we are closer to death, he wrote.

He later clarified that he was not dying, and that the meaning of the message was to encourage everyone to “embrace every single day we have”.

Simmons hadn’t been in the public eye for a while, but earlier this year there were reports that a movie was being made regarding the fitness guru. Simmons criticized the messages, saying this is not true.

– I just try to live a quiet life in peace and quiet, he said.
