Fitch maintains its ‘AA-‘ rating for Belgium, with a negative outlook, the US rating agency announced on Friday.
In March, Fitch had already reduced the outlook for Belgium from “stable” to “negative”. In doing so, the rating agency had indicated that a lowering of the ‘AA-‘ rating was possible.
For now, Fitch is therefore keeping Belgium’s rating unchanged. To do this, the rating agency emphasizes, among other things, its “diversified economy with high added value and prosperous”. High public debt, persistent budget deficits and “a political and institutional context that makes fiscal interventions difficult” keep the outlook negative.
