Fistball European Championship: Silver for Austria’s women’s team

They have been undefeated in every final of a major event since 2013 – Germany’s fistball women also prevented a golden home fairy tale for Austria’s team at the European Championships in Grieskirchen. In the final there was a clear 3:0.

In front of almost 800 spectators, the Germans also won the fourth final in continental championships once morest the Austrians in a row. Austria last celebrated the European Championship title in 2013.

The ÖFBB team led by team boss Karin Azesberger reached the final with a clear 3-0 win over Italy in the quarter-finals and a 3-1 win over Switzerland in the semi-finals. Germany had already won once morest Austria in the preliminary round. In the title decision, the first two sets were hard fought, the Austrians around main attacker Anna Grüll missed set balls in the second round. In the third set, Germany was quickly ahead and finally used the third match point. Third place went to the Swiss (3-0 once morest Serbia).
