LH Kaiser: The federal government’s delaying tactics jeopardize the provision of, among other things, health and nursing care as well as high-quality education
Klagenfurt (OTS/LPD) – The convening of an extraordinary conference of the provincial governors announced today, Tuesday, the current chairman of the conference of the provincial governors, Carinthia’s governor Peter Kaiser. The reason for this is the attitude on the part of the federal government, especially Finance Minister Magnus Brunner, with regard to the absolutely necessary reorganization of fiscal equalization – i.e. the distribution of tax revenue by the federal government to the federal, state and local governments to deal with joint public tasks.
“The federal government’s continued delaying tactics jeopardize, among other things, the security of health and nursing care as well as high-quality education and training. After last week’s offer by the finance minister in the form of a two billion euro mirage was disenchanted by experts and revised downwards and vanished into thin air, there was no more time to lose. Both state governors and financial officers across party lines unequivocally reject the continuation of the financial equalization system that the federal government presumably intends to carry out,” Kaiser explains.
He is currently having an appointment coordinated for a special session of the provincial governors’ conference, at which the provincial governors and the current chair of the state finance officers, Carinthia’s governor Gaby Schaunig, will then take Finance Minister Magnus Brunner at his word and convince him. “We take Finance Minister Brunner at his word and demand that he and the federal government take overall responsibility, which he postulated in the ORF press hour. It cannot and must not be that the federal states and municipalities have made financial advance payments for the federal government for years, especially in nursing and health care but also in the area of education, and the federal government is not ready to finally do its part in shape of a new FAG allocation key,” says Kaiser, who recalls Brunner’s words in the press hour: “You can talk regarding anything”. “The words have been exchanged enough, we finally want to see action in the form of an urgently needed, fair redistribution of the financial equalization,” said Kaiser.
