21 months following the award in Milan, there is still no contract signing. The world association’s statement says: “If Swiss-Ski cannot meet its obligations, the FIS will have no choice but to award the 2027 Alpine World Championships to another candidate.”
Based on research by the NZZ, the world association published a statement on its channels saying that Swiss-Ski does not want to fulfill the contractual obligations made in the application dossier. This refers to the financial guarantees provided by the federal government, the canton of Valais and the Crans-Montana municipal association when the candidacy was announced.
Diego Zuger, the CEO Commercial of Swiss-Ski, denies this: “We formally reject the FIS’s accusation of not keeping promises made during the candidacy phase.” At Swiss-Ski, the FIS statement “cannot be understood because various allegations are simply not true.” üger stated in the NZZ that the FIS had “changed the conditions during the negotiations”.
Zuger explained on Saturday during the women’s World Cup downhill in Crans-Montana that the rules of the game had been followed throughout the entire process. “I am convinced we will find a solution.” It’s still regarding liability issues where there is no agreement, but he said: “From our point of view, the World Cup is not at risk. It will take place.”
Olympic champion Didier Défago, CEO of the World Cup, sees “zero danger” of losing the World Cup. “There are still a few details to deal with, that should be done in the next few weeks, I hope.”
