In the Virgen Valley in East Tyrol, a wolf has been killed for the first time in accordance with the new measures ordinance of the Tyrolean state government. This has been in force since the end of May and expires with immediate effect following being shot down, the state of Tyrol announced in a broadcast on Sunday. This means that there are still six shooting permits for a wolf in Tyrol, four of them in East Tyrol. So far this year, 90 grazing animals have been killed by wolves and another 150 are missing.
Deputy Governor Josef Geisler (ÖVP) described the shooting as an “important signal”: “Our primary goal is to protect our alpine farming. This is not only important for agriculture, but also for biodiversity, protection once morest natural hazards and tourism.” The killed wolf is examined by the Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) in Innsbruck.
