With the “Percy Jackson” books, author Rick Riordan created one of the most successful young adult novel series of all time. It was all the sadder for many fans when the cinema adaptations fell far short of expectations. Riordan himself was more than just disappointed and is now working with Disney to make it better. The first trailer for the new Disney series “Percy Jackson And The Olympians” is here.
The two film adaptations “Percy Jackson – Diebe Im Olymp” and “Percy Jackson – Im Ban des Cyclops” were released in 2010 and 2013 and did not have the desired success. On the contrary, both critics and fans agree that both films don’t even come close to the original. Both films flopped in theaters and as if that wasn’t humiliation enough, script writer Rick Riordan declared that he hated the films. So you turned his life’s work through a meat grinder.
Now the author wants to show how it can be done better and is working with Disney on a new series that is supposed to show Percy Jackson the way Rick Riordan imagines it. Dubbed Percy Jackson And The Olympians, the series is set to release in early 2024 and will tell the story of the demigod Percy Jackson from the start. A first teaser released at Disney’s D23 show shows actor Walker Scobell (The Adam Project) heading to Camp Halfblood.

The first teaser alone seems to have significantly more parallels to the books than the two films from the 2010s. It remains to be seen how good the series will actually be, but the involvement of Rick Riordan gives hope. We will certainly be informed of an exact start date in the next few months.
