First roller hockey field inaugurated in Chillán – La Discusión 2024-05-08 08:32:46

A dream that he had waited for ten years came true.

Chillán and Ñuble already have their first roller hockey field, which was inaugurated this Monday, in Villa Padre Hurtado, Parque Lantaño sector, to the joy of the promises, leaders and representatives of this emerging discipline.

“This is a dream that we have waited for a long time to come true. That is why we thank the municipality and the Regional Government, because it will allow us to develop this sport and project it at the national level since matches in the Southern League can be played here because it has the regulatory measures,” Ricardo López, president of the Club de Tornado Roller Hockey, tireless promoter of the initiative.

The municipality of Chillán recognized the historical concern of the club’s leadership and, through Secpla, designed the project, which the Regional Government financed with an investment of 122 million pesos.

“We are on a roller hockey field that did not exist in this city and was necessary because we have young athletes and other more advanced ones, families behind us and we have an obligation. We completed this first step and now the idea is to be able to roof it, but we continue to advance with the development of sports infrastructure,” stressed Camilo Benavente, mayor of Chillán.

“We fulfilled a commitment with the Chillán skate clubs and we are delivering this beautiful venue that adds to other sports infrastructure in Ñuble that we are delivering because we want to improve the spaces for the community and sports. Now young people can enjoy and compete,” stressed the Governor of Ñuble, Óscar Crisóstomo.

“This is the first step. We already have this field that has the official measurements of 40×20 and the Southern League will begin with this venue, which is very beautiful and will promote the development of roller hockey in Chillán and Ñuble,” said Marcelo Urrutia, president of the Chilean Sports Federation. The beneficiaries of this facility applauded the infrastructure.

“I am very excited because many things will become easier for us and we will be able to play better against teams in the Southern League. We will be able to hit the ball much better and it will jump less,” declared Club Tornado player, Florencia Mendoza.

“This will help us improve our game and training to be able to compete better in the Southern League,” stressed his teammate, María Francisca Becerra.

Little Pedro Villaseñor expressed that “I liked the field and also the games that are next to it, I really like playing hockey.”

Josefa Desfadur, 7 years old, said that “the court is light and that way I will be able to learn much more to play.”

“This will allow us to get new players who aspire to a better level. Likewise, we already have players who have been competing in the National League and having this field allows us to have more tools, play with other clubs and popularize roller hockey,” emphasized the coach of Club Tornado, Liudba Rojas.

Francisco Céspedes, coach of the Roller Wolf Academy, highlighted that “this strategic place will serve so that children can also evolve in skating and hopefully soon have a skatedrome.”

After the traditional ribbon cutting by the authorities and leaders of roller hockey and skating, the promises of the Tornado Club and Roller Wolf Academy gave life to an exhibition that drew applause on a dream surface that opened its doors to talent on two wheels.
