First results of the Ñuble Energy Demand Study delivered – La Discusión 2024-05-03 09:07:41

The consulting team in charge of the Ñuble Energy Demand Study presented the “Interdisciplinary Analysis and Roadmap on Enabling Energy Infrastructure, for the promotion of Ñuble’s Industrial Activity”, a product prior to the delivery of the final study, projected for the beginning of May, within the framework of the Ñuble Special Plan of the Ministry of Energy, following the commitment of the Executive, to provide a safe and reliable energy supply in all corners of the country.

The event, which was led by the Seremi of Energía Ñuble, Dennis Rivas, together with the professionals from the Energy Center of the University of Chile and the University of Concepción, aimed to present the partial results of the research, to obtain feedback from the related actors and thus cover the greatest number of views in the final delivery of the product.

Among the advances exhibited, a georeferenced map of current energy consumption stands out, and its projection for 30 years, distributed by production category.

At the same time, a series of short and medium-term solutions are proposed – such as the sectioning of lines – that might give slack to the power available in the regional electrical system, also highlighting the important field of development for generation systems based on to non-conventional renewable energies.

The seremi of Energía Ñuble, Dennis Rivas Oviedo, commented that “once the final study has been delivered, and with the expected legislative progress of the Energy Transition project, we will be facing a very different panorama for regional energy development, mainly focused on the distribution”.

“We are extremely grateful to the team of professionals in charge of the study, most of whom come from the Energy Center of the University of Chile, but also from the University of Concepción and other entities, since this product will promote the route towards the energy development that our Ñuble Region requires” added Seremi Rivas.

Present at the activity were representatives from the private world, electrical companies from the region, regional unions, along with the ministers of Health and Economy – Ximena Salinas and Erick Solo de Zaldívar – the regional director of Corfo, Macarena Dávila, the regional director of the SEC, Víctor Pérez, the rector of the UdeC Chillán, Pedro Rojas, and the deputy, Frank Sauerbaum.

In September 2023, with the unanimous vote of the senators present, the Senate Chamber approved a draft agreement in which it requests the President of the Republic to present a bill and adopt the necessary administrative actions to improve the transmission infrastructure electricity in the Ñuble Region.

The project requested that the Minister of Energy be instructed to design a plan to address the deficit in electrical transmission in the Ñuble Region, and that, if necessary, a bill be submitted to the National Congress with a focus on improving infrastructure. for electrical transmission in the Ñuble.

The authors of the draft agreement recalled that in May 2023, the Minister of Energy visited the region to present the “Ñuble Special Plan”, which contemplates short and medium-term measures: An Energy Transition Law Project; open call for the development of transmission works (“open season”) and a study of energy demand at the regional level, a document that is in process.

They added on that occasion that even though a draft Energy Transition Law was presented in July 2023, it is “an initiative that addresses structural aspects of Energy Transmission in Chile (institutionality, infrastructure, planning mechanisms, tariff revenues, among others). other matters), so a long discussion is anticipated without urgently addressing the situation in the Ñuble Region.”

They indicated that “the main unions in the region delivered a letter to the President of the Republic requesting the dispatch of a Short Transmission Law, which focuses on facilitating the reactivation of transmission infrastructure projects that are currently stopped.”
