First reaction: How did the new Alien do?

The Alien series has needed a real boost for a long time. The last two films by Ridley Scott, although rarely praised, rather disappointed most people, and financially it was no longer attractive enough for 20th Century to continue its prequel philosophizing about humanity, God and the universe. After a few years, Fede Alvarez, a swashbuckler signed to the horror films Forest Spirit, Death in the Dark or Death in the Dark 2, is getting his chance. How did this move to the first league hold up?

We won’t tell you numerically this time, because the embargo on reviews is valid until tomorrow evening (when our impressions will be published at the same time), so for now we have to rely only on the first short reactions of some journalists on social networks. Well, they seem to mostly love this spin-off set in the period around number one.

Most people agree that Alien: Romulus is one of the more accomplished additions to the series’ 45-year history. The film is clearly based on and inspired by everything that preceded it, but at the same time tells a separate story with a great atmosphere and the traditional bloody trigger that has always belonged to the series. The plot is said to have a slower start, but it gets better and better as the minutes go by, and the final third is said to be a phenomenal and thrilling finale.

The film’s sound side is highly praised, as is its world-building. It is said to be quite a depressing and dark spectacle, but that is more or less true of all the previous films. However, the director wasn’t afraid to innovate where it made sense to deliver smart and scary fun at the same time, in which rising star Cailee Spaeny and actor David Jonsson absolutely reign supreme. Last but not least, the mix of practical effects with excellent CGI will delight.

In Czech cinemas already this Thursday. Look for our review sometime shortly after the first impressions.

In any case, you can shorten the wait for the new Alien with our special for two.
