In the podcast “Through the eyes of the King”, Guillermo speaks like never before. It’s a cycle of 10 episodes in which he reviews a year in each installmentstarting with 2013 and ending with 2022 and the first months of 2023. In the last appearance, he also looks to the future.
Despite the fact that only three were released, they are an international audience success and the most important thing is that they were very well received by the Queen Maxima. In the 20 minutes that each installment lasts, he reveals some little-known details regarding his family, such as the constant criticism on the networks and how his teenage daughters deal with them.
The recordings were made at his home, precisely in the office of the Huis ten Bosch palace where he says he spent a lot of time in the toughest months of the coronavirus making “zoom calls” where he wasn’t always wearing a full suit. On occasion, especially at the beginning, the king has confessed, the jacket and tie were accompanied by comfortable sports pants that were not seen on camera and that “gave him a good feeling”; feel that he was at home despite the difficulties.
From there you can see the pond where he proposed to Máxima in 2001. They had only been together for two years, but it was already clear to him that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

The king addresses the issue of bullying that his daughters have suffered and how criticism and social pressure affect his family. He is aware that his daughters are not isolated from technology and social networks and that they are aware of the negative comments made regarding them.
The monarch also talks regarding what unites him with Máxima, with whom he fell in love at the April Fair in Seville in 1999, regarding the future of Princess Amalia and even regarding how she lived the day of her coronation, it was an “out-of-body experience as if was floating above me: what am I? What the hell are you doing? Who do you think you are? I saw myself standing down there, and I liked that.” So much so that it is not the only time it has happened to him: “I ask myself that question every day: who do you think you are, that you can do this?”
Regarding his marriage, the king reveals some things that he shares with his wife, Máxima. “When I see other people crying, I find it hard to contain myself. I think I’m lucky to live in the 21st century, where showing emotions is not seen with the same weakness as in the past. I’m not ashamed of that,” the king said. He highlights that Máxima is also very emotional and that this is something they share and unite them.
On the official website of the royal family of the Netherlands, it announces that a new episode will appear every Thursday morning from April 6, 2023, until May 25, 2023 at 7 a.m. on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and other podcast apps.
