Horror has reigned in space since December 2nd: The Callisto Protocol has been published, but it doesn’t necessarily bring joy everywhere. Above all PC gamers suffer from extreme performance issues.
They are so widespread that the reviews on Steam have meanwhile turned out to be mostly negative. In the meantime, however, there is a small upward trend, because the development team at Striking Distance Studios released a patch that improves the game’s performance a bit.
The Callisto Protocol: Update 1.006 helps with shader issues
The update with version number 1.006 for The Callisto Protocol was already released for the PC in the evening hours of December 3rd. According to the developers via Twitter, this should tackle the stuttering problems as a result of the shader compilation.
Thanks for your patience. A PC patch is now available to improve gameplay stuttering issues due to shader compilation. After updating, you may see temporary stuttering in the game menu the first time you launch the app. We are working on further optimizations in the days ahead.

After the update, there should still be temporary stuttering in the game menu when you start it for the first time. After that, however, the extreme stuttering of the release version should no longer occur. And apparently the patch keeps what it promises. In the Steam reviews, many players comment that the performance has definitely improved.
This is then also reflected in the ratings Steam noticeable. In the meantime, 55 percent of the more than 13,000 reviews given are positive, which is a noticeable upward trend. However, there are still a few technical issues that the developers plan to fix over the next few weeks.
Console update released
In addition to the PC patch, the developers also released an update for the console version of The Callisto Protocol on December 4th. This aims to fix some of the serious framerate and crashing issues. The update is now available for download for all consoles.
