First Neurosurgery in 8 Years at Cabimas Hospital: A Milestone in Healthcare Modernization

HEALTH.-At the Dr. Adolfo D’Empaire General Hospital of Cabimas (HGC), the first neurosurgery performed at the healthcare center in 8 years and the first in 2024 was performed this February 1.

Health authorities indicated to El Regional del Zulia that the surgery was performed in the followingnoon on a 14-year-old teenager. The surgery began at 4:45pm and lasted 1 hour and 35 minutes.

The procedure was possible thanks to the effort and joint management of a team of professionals belonging to the General Hospital of the South and the management of the General Hospital of Cabimas, which has the support of the Government of Zulia and the Mayor’s Office of Cabimas, to continue recovering and modernizing the healthcare center.

Dr. Manyely Adarmes, director of the HGC, reported that following 8 years no surgical intervention was performed by the neurosurgery specialty; On this occasion, we had the collaboration of doctors Wilmer Adrianza and Pedro Indriago, neurosurgeons assigned to the General Hospital of the South, in order to provide a better quality of life to the 14-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with an epidural hematoma. .

Adarmes explained that this type of diagnosis is not very complex within the specialty of neurosurgery, therefore, it was possible to carry out the surgical intervention, despite the fact that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is not operational in the hospital. »If we might find a solution to the case, even though we did not have the ICU available.»

The highest representative of the HGC thanked both specialists for their great contribution and willingness to carry out the surgical procedure, where they also had the support of Dr. Rita Quevedo, anesthesiologist.

The neurosurgeon, Pedro Indriago, highlighted that a couple of months ago the proposal was made from a surgical care and academic point of view, in order to open the neurosurgery service on the Eastern Coast of the Lake (COL). “The majority of patients are transferred to Maracaibo, the idea is to also have a reference point in the COL.”

For his part, Wilmer Adrianza, a resident of the 4th year of the neurosurgery service at the General Hospital of the South, thanked the director of the HGC, Manyely Adarmes for the vote of confidence so that the procedure will be carried out and in turn highlighted the importance of opening it. the neurosurgery service. “We are going to move forward and offer the COL population the possibility of having the neurosurgery service in Cabimas,” said Adrianza.
