First Neuralink patient controls a computer mouse

Less than a month following Elon Musk confirmed that Neuralink implanted the first brain chip in a human patient, the tycoon announced that he has fully recovered and is now able to control a computer mouse with his mind.

“Progress is good and the patient appears to have fully recovered, with no ill effects that we know of. “The patient can move the mouse around the screen just by thinking,” Musk said during an event at Spaces on the platform ‘X’.

The next goal of the Neuralink project is for patients to be able to move the mouse or computer mouse in various directions and press any of the buttons on the screen using only their mind.

“We’re trying to push as many buttons as possible from thought, so that’s what we’re currently working on,” said the CEO the Neuralink.

The businessman explained that this is a “small progress” of what the company wants to achieve, whose main mission is to restore the lost skills of patients with neurological disorders.

On January 29, Neuralink performed the first brain implant in a human being, its CEO reported through Twitternow ‘X’, without giving more details regarding the patient’s progress except to assure that “he is recovering well.”

This was the first operation done by Neuralink following receiving authorization from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to conduct the first human implant trial in September 2023.

The first chip implemented by Neuralink is named Telepathywhich is responsible for recording and transmitting brain signals from an application that encodes a person’s movements.

Telepathy “allows you to control your phone or computer and, through them, almost any device, just by thinking,” Musk wrote in his social networks.

“It is an important first step that will one day allow our technology to help many people,” he added during the launch of Neuralink.
