First lady Kim Kun-hee, who made a surprise visit to Ukraine with President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 15th (local time), met with first lady Olena Zelenska and visited the Center for the Protection of Children’s Rights.

First lady Kim met with Zelenska that day and supported her dedication and courageous move, said Kim Eun-hye, senior public relations officer at the Presidential Office, in a written briefing.

First Lady Kim said, “Korea also experienced the horrors of the war, but since then it has grown at the fastest pace in the world and reached today.” expressed their willingness to support reconstruction.

It has been three days since the first meeting between Kim and Zelenska. The two first ladies met on the 12th at the official spouses program of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Summit held at the ‘Ukraine Center’ in downtown Vilnius, Lithuania. When Ms. Zelenska visited Korea last May, the two had a conversation regarding Ukrainian culture and support plans for environmental destruction.

Referring to her visit to the Ukraine Center during the meeting, Mrs. Kim said, “I was deeply moved by the pictures of Ukrainian refugee children displayed at the center. Each child became a journalist and informed the horrors of the war.” Ms. Zelenska responded by saying, “There is a case in Ukraine where a picture drawn by an autistic child who was forced to flee during the war moved a lot.”

Mrs. Kim continued, saying, “Many people in Korea, including me, want to help Ukraine,” and suggested a plan to exhibit these paintings in Korea. Ms. Kim said, “More people will be moved by the paintings drawn by Ukrainian refugees and will voluntarily donate for Ukraine.” . Ms. Zelenska said, “I think it is a good opportunity to publicize the horrors of war,” and she said that the two countries should consult together.

On the same day, Ms. Kim and Ms. Zelenska visited the Child Rights Protection Center in Kiiwu.

US President Joe Biden visited Ukraine last February and Jill Biden visited Ukraine separately in May of last year. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visited Ukraine in March without his spouse.
