Responding to a complaint made through the Instagram of the journalist Yanara Vivas, the first lady of the Mérida state, Gairimar Cano de Guzmán, went on the followingnoon of this Friday, August 5, together with the team of the Negra Hipólita program, to the Santa Elena sector, where a citizen in a street situation keeps citizens on alert for his aggressive behavior and public lewd acts, to rescue the citizen, without achieving in this first attempt the objective of “transferring him peacefully” however, the first lady reported, they will attend the case, looking for an alternative for the peaceful transfer of the citizen to a suitable shelter for his condition.

Black Hipólita stays on the street

Through the program Negra Hipólita, the first lady, develops a permanent operation helping people in street situations, managing to attract 12 people, 10 men and 2 women, who are already being treated in the therapeutic centers of the entity.

This program especially serves people who have lost their home and family due to drug use, who voluntarily wish to be cared for, receiving food, shelter and help to improve their physical and emotional health.

Some people do not accept help at first contact, but we continue to monitor them until we convince them, explained the first lady, who, together with the team that accompanies her, assisted, among others, several older adults who slept in the IAHULA emergency room and in the city center.
